The complexity of the daily human survival has equally defined everything that pertains to life as being “complex” and rightly so. From the very second of conception to the second our last breath exhales, human existence is a journey of a complex strings of events.
We have to learn to walk, talk, eat; in essence, to live and simply be human. Amidst all these demands, is that compelling part of our human nature to worship something or someone bigger than us. All souls are tied to the Creator, it longs for Him, to please, to serve and simply to worship Him.
Psalm 63:1 “O God, thou hath my God, early will I seek thee: My soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and weary land…”
We search for answers to many questions that debate who God is. We contend with the wrongly defined nature of God by the government, the media and even clergies. Generations before us have confined God to myths, paintings and sculptures made by the hands of mortals, but all these only take us farther away from Him. We seek to satisfy our thirst through relationships, but they end up pulling us down. We seek help from alcohol and drugs, but these only reduce our sense of worth to the control of our addictions and the lack of will to battle them.
The thirst to know and worship God is insatiable to man except through the knowledge of Jesus Christ and acceptance of His ultimate sacrifice on the cross. There is a satisfaction and calmness that washes over the human soul when it embraces the cross. That very second you give it all up and embrace the salvation offered through the blood of Jesus, you become His. Your relationship with your Maker becomes as real as your existence. You are liberated; you are free to serve; to live in honor of and to worship Him. You are safe from the billows of the wrong representation of your Creator. The knowledge of Jesus as Lord strengthens you and places you above adversities. You are free to worship because now you know Him.
Isaiah 40:31 “But they that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength: they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint…”
Why then does worship seem complex to believers? I guess the nature of our humanity dictates every endeavor to be complex. If the simple act of sleeping is defined as complex, why not the worship of the Maker of heaven and earth? We struggle with the expression of our worship: Should I wave, should I stand still or should I simply sing? We even judge others by the way they choose to worship God. But, the complexity of worship can be simplified by understanding that worship defines us; we do not define worship. Worship is living each second of our existence in honor of the Savior; it sets us free from the bonds of human nature and allows the nature of God to control us. Worship is the way we talk, the way we walk, the way we work, the way we love and even the way we hurt. Worship is the action and reaction to the daily demands by those who surround us. It’s the way we treat every man or woman God sends our way. Our corporate worship of God is acceptable to Him when it stems from our love and an unwavering desire to please Him. He accepts all our physically imperfect expressions and delights in the leaping of our spirit when we worship Him. When you worship, nothing else matters. You can be one of a thousand people or one of two, but no one stands between you and your Maker. You can be in tune or out of tune when you sing; your hands can be lifted or folded; your eyes can be closed or opened. When your worship is true, you are simply engulfed by the flames of knowing you are loved by the eternal, immortal, invincible and only wise God. Our Maker delights in our worship.
John 4:24 “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him, must worship in spirit and in truth.”
